Wow, when this book set arrived I was so delighted! It was delivered quickly and wrapped in the most beautiful gift paper. The Running Rooster, the first in a series of sweet stories, is about a young respectful girl and her grandmother who comes to live with her family. The story revolves around the hope chest and the grandmother's gentle guidance on how to create a running rooster pot holder. The available running rooster pot holder kit (available through the website $7.50) can be sewn following detailed instructions included throughout the story.
I would highly recommend this for the mother of any daughter. This would make a great gift! Even a grown daughter would enjoy this!

A Sick little Lucie is in bed. Grandmother brings her a basket full of warm pumpkin muffins covered in a beautiful bread cloth. Follow the story with your child as you learn, with Lucie, how to make a bread cloth. Step by step instructions are included and a recipe for muffins. Such sweet characters are in all of these books and simple teachings about God are included also. Beautiful pictures is a well bound hard cover book! I recommend purchasing the kit to make the bread cloth along with the book!
The Boy Joiner and Model Maker
By: E A Davidson
Recommended ages: 7+
$18.00
Part of developing character in children is teaching them to work and that work is enjoyable. It is so sad to hear children say "I'm bored". It seems that the more "things" (toys, entertainment, etc.) children have, the more bored they become. But teach a boy to build and he will develop a love for work and the creativity it can involve.
This book does not contain step by step, detailed instructions for reach project, but does include nearly 200 illustrations and "practical directions" for making such items as book shelves, a doghouse, a model railway, and many other fun and useful items. Also included is a section on various tools and how to use them. Great for a father and son!!!
"The Boy Joiner and Model Maker is the official title of this book. Filled with over 200 illustrations, Ellis Davidson has given boys a remarkable tool for learning to work with wood and create a wide variety of items. Reprinted from the original 1874 edition, Ellis Davidson obviously knew boys and knew how to keep a boy busy while learning important skills at the same time. The author was a well-known writer of carpentry, construction, drafting and drawing books in post-Civil War days.
This book is not "baby stuff" for boys. The lessons learned in this book build solid, real knowledge of woodworking and carpentry skills. Geometry is explained in simple to understand terms and used in many of the projects for real 'hands-on' learning.
One of the unique aspects of this book is only hand-tools are used to create
wonderful projects that have a useful purpose in any home. When a boy learns
how to use and care for hand-tools, the next step is to advance to power-tools
with adult supervision. Whether you purchase this book for a boy, father or
grandfather they will have many projects to choose from."
Other items from Hope Chest Legacy include recipe cards, patterns and many other delightful, inspiring items. All of Rebekah's books show the idea that children should honor their parents, and that parents should show genuine love for and spend time with their children.
Thinking of Others Series

This delightful series of picture storybooks combine wonderful, gentle lessons of love with incredible paintings of children. These books are written by Gary Bower and illustrated by his wife, Jan Bower, parents of 11 children. Jan is a very talented artist, and her own children, family, and friends posed for the paintings that are throughout the book. The expressions really capture the heart of the stories. Gary Bower speaks on "Thinking of Others" at elementary and middle schools.
We set these books out on our table, and our 7 year old daughter quickly spotted them and began looking through all of the beautiful pages. She then read through the first book, Tessa's Treasures. After reading the book, she told me all about it with great excitement. She was able to fully understand the lesson behind the story; treasuring people over things. We found the stories to be the perfect length, not too short or long, but just perfect for snuggling up on the couch and reading as a family before bedtime.
Each book has Bible verse related to the story, comprehension questions, and application questions. There is also a page with information to the parents. These books are wonderful. They are large format, hardcover books, with excellent binding. They would make a wonderful gift. I really like that the section in the back is included for the parents. This would make an excellent gift to a child of parents that do not yet know the Lord. The parent page is gentle and loving in it's explanation of God's love.

The Lamplighter Rare Collection Series is a series of Christian family literature from the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
"Here at Cornerstone Family Ministries and Lamplighter Publishing, it is our goal to rediscover Christian literature of long-ago that will significantly change lives today, drawing people close to the Savior. It is our desire to enable God's children to be transformed, literally through the renewing of their minds."
These classic stories for children offer sound Christian doctrine and Biblical truths incorporated in events that children can understand. The language in the stories reflects the language of the century in which the stories were written. The content and foundation upon which they are based is worthy of teaching God's principles to children. Most of the books have few pictures in black and white and are representative of those which would have appeared at the time they were originally written. These books are very well bound, and I imagine they will hold up for many generations. For pre-school and early elementary age children, I would highly recommend the two picture/story books below.
Hedge of Thorns by John Carrol, Rewritten by Mark Hamilton, Illustrated by Jennifer and Deborah Hamby

A beautiful story originally written in 1611, has bee rewritten in modern language with modern illustrations to teach the Biblical truth about God's protection of us, and how He puts hedges up for our safety. Read about a boy who gives in to temptation only to be taught that God has a reason for us to be obedient. The colorful illustrations are gorgeous and cover every page.
The Beggar's Blessing, Retold by Mark Hamby, Illustrated by Deborah and Jennifer Hamby

Mark Hamby has taken a wonderful 18th century story and rewritten it in today's language. This is a true story of a little girl who gives up her most precious treasure in order to help a poor starving beggar. It is written in print and language which even early elementary children can read. The colorful illustrations of Deborah and Jennifer Hamby are delightful!.

We started out with Storytime and the Millers, then followed by reading Prudence and the Millers, Wisdom and the Millers, and Missionary Stories. Great books for bedtime or morning devotions with little ones. Another book offered by Rod and Staff is A Hive of Busy Bees
