10 Days Games

Out of the Box Games

THE 10 DAYS SERIES…
Get Packing for the Unpredictable Games of Making Connections!
Players use destination and transportation tiles to chart a course across a continent— touring by plane, car, boat or on foot. Using clever planning, and a little luck, players attempt to be the first traveler to make connections for a complete ten day journey. Travel the world with these award winning games!
• Ages 10 to Adult
• 2–4 Players
• 20–30 Minutes per Game

These games have quickly become a favorite in our house. This game is wonderful for both children and adults. Our oldest daughter is 8 years old and says these are her favorite games. I think the best way to learn geography is through game playing. I would not call these "geography" games though, as there is so much more to them. There is a lot of planning and critical thinking involved - and the geography learning will just happen rather than being drilled in as in some trivia type games. If you are wanting to teach your children the names of our states and the countries of the world - these games are perfect!

The board, cards, and card holders are very well made. The card holders are made of wood. These games are built to last - and that is great because they will be played with often!

State History From a Christian Perspective

The best products for learning about State History!

My State History Fun Book

Recommended ages: 3-7

A delightful book, perfect for any young child learning about State History. Available for every state. Wonderfully laid out. If you enjoy "notebooking" style, but not all of the planning - this is the perfect solution. We picked up some free travel magazines for our state which gave us beautiful pictures to glue in the Fun Book. We purchased one of these for each of our girls and they look forward to doing their "Florida book" every morning. When you are finished you will have a beautiful book that your child put together. Our girls enjoy looking through their finished pages and are proud of their work.

My State Notebook, Individual State History Student Books,

Similar to the above book, but more in depth for older students. Available for all states.

Recommended grades: 3-8

$8.50-12

This program will really help your student gain a love for history. The My State Notebook is a colorful book for the student to fill in with facts, drawings, and photos. The 83 pages will become a treasured keepsake.

Independent study books ($6.50) and answer key ($1.50)

Recommended grades: 7-12

50 States Under God

Recommended grades 4-12

$25.00

This nice, spiral bound book contains over 180 pages. There are three pages devoted to each state. Test pages and blackline maps are also included. States are presented in order of statehood. Decoding puzzles are featured throughout with a key in the back of the book. Many interesting fact pages are also featured such as US presidents, signers of the Declaration of Independence, state natural resources, weather data, state symbols and mottos, population, etc. Colorful cut and paste pictures of state birds, flowers, trees, and flags are included for the student to paste on to the first page for each state.

Lesson planning pages and scheduling ideas make this a very easy to use book. Other than a section to write in an extra fact about each state, this book contains all of the information the student will need. This is just one of the reasons that this book is excellent for independent study. The best reason though, is that it is written for a Christian perspective and there is no need to pre-read this before giving it to your child. (Although I really enjoyed reading it also).

This book is meant to be an appetizer to help the student gain a love for history and a desire to learn.

The Story of the World

Vol. 1-4

These books are wonderful for children of all ages. They are easy to read to younger children (pre-K through 4th grade) and are even enjoyable for older students as well as adults. History is presented in a chronological order from a neutral position. The facts are presented (as they should be in history) and no bias is given to a particular religion or culture. There is a corresponding activity book for each volume that is a must if you want your children to really enjoy history. The activities are not limited to coloring pages and maps, but include fun things that go as far as mummifying a chicken (something I am sure your children will always remember!). These books will make history come alive for you and your children and will allow for good story time during the day or even at bedtime. Audio versions are also available. There are many myths included. Also, some of the Biblical stories contain a lot of opinion that is presented as fact. We use this and just leave out the myths (which are mainly in Vol. 1) and read the Bible stories from the Bible or use Mystery of History.

Galloping the Globe

by Loee Pettit and Dari Mullins

$24.95

Recommended grades: K-4th

This book is great! A geography unit study for young learners grades K-4. We started doing 5 in a Row, and my girls loved placing a story disk on our large wall map indicating where the stories took place, but that was where their interest stopped. With Galloping the Globe, the focus is more on the geography. This approach will captivate your children and create a love for geography!. Subjects included in this unit study are Geography, Bible, history, science, literature, and vocabulary. Maps and flags, reproducibles, puzzles, games, and craft ideas are also included! I highly recommend this!!!! The additional books needed include: Considering God's Creation, My Father's World (Rod and Staff), Special Wonders of the Wild Kingdom (by Master Books), and some others. A great way to incorporate a number of great resources in your studies while teaching children of multiple ages. Many of the literature books suggested, if not all, listed can be found at your local library. Great recipe ideas, crafts, outline maps, flags to color, and much more are included!

Cantering the Country

$39.95

If your children liked Galloping the Globe, they will love to Canter the Country! Each state is presented in alphabetical order, though a listing of when they became part of the union is included if you prefer to study the states in that order. All subjects except for math and reading are covered and are presented in such a way that makes it simple to teach children of multiple ages very easily! The back has a listing of all of the state addresses and websites for you to request a "visitors information packet". A CD is included to make obtaining games, coloring pages, and more very simple (rather than having to copy them from the book). A companion cookbook is also available and highly recommended! Click on the Cantering the Country link for a very detailed description of the book.

Alpha Omega Publications Lifepac Curriculum

http://www.aop.com

This curriculum includes a teachers manual and 10 small workbooks called Lifepacs. The workbooks are very colorful and inviting and simple enough for the child to read and complete on their own. Without the teacher's book and instruction, this would just be busy work. The workbooks should be used to help the child retain what was taught. These books do not contain any offensive material. The first grade teachers manuals include LOTS of reproducible worksheets, while subsequent manuals are much smaller.

The Mystery of History Vol I

$44.95

Recommended grades 4-8

This chronological book goes from creation to Jesus' resurrection. Find out who walked the earth when, where Bible figures fit into secular history; like what was happening in China when the Israelites crossed the Red Sea. All the research has been done for you which makes this perfect for the parent that does not have a lot of knowledge on the subject. Week by week lessons, historical photos, quizzes, tests, projects and activities, timelines and mapping assignments, reproducible student pages, and outline maps are all included!

This book has instructions for adapting it to younger children as well. The activities are wonderful and fun. There are oral pre-tests included to see what the child knows already, lessons that are written in an easy to read manner, and fun activities. I think this is a wonderful book for any Christian family to use and works especially well for multi-level teaching. I think that there are other volumes as well and we hope to have a review of them posted soon.

What in the World: Part 1

Ancient Civilization and the Bible

Activity Book

We have found it! This book gently leads one through the journey of history in a way that makes the adventure fun and exciting! History was never my favorite subject in school. I was always confused about what happened in what order and all of the facts seemed just that - facts, rather than a story. I did not want my lack of interest in history (as a subject) to be passed on to my girls. I wanted them to see history as a story of the past - a fascinating story of life and adventure - seeing God's leading in the lives of others.

This wonderful little book is presented in chronological order beginning with...the beginning; creation. The book is set up for you to use with your children for 2 to 3 days each week. Each section is taught for 4 weeks. The first section goes over the story. You will read to your children out of your own Bible what happened, in order of when it happened. There are great discussion questions related to each story that will generate a lot of further discussion on real life application. I found it was fun to do the discussion time once my husband was home and we were all on the couch - he had many things to offer that I did not think to bring up - it is a great family time! All of the learning styles are incorporated in this book; a different one for each of the four weeks. Crafts, songs, puzzles, and much more are sure to delight your children and help them not only remember the "facts", but enjoy the story! This is our favorite history product for young elementary children.

We enjoyed the Weaver Unit study, but it was too much preparation for our family with all of the different ages of the children. This book is all put together and ready to go and use as a family. It is the perfect balance of questions, workbook activity puzzles, and fun projects. There are some suggested books listed that would allow for deeper study.

We let the girls listen to What in the World's Going on Here: Part 1. It goes right along with the stories you will be reading from the Word of God for each section. Diana Waring is very interesting to listen to as she tells the interesting stories of history in an exciting way.
