        Future Christian Homemakers Handbook

        Written by: Laurie Latour

        Forward by: Elisabeth Elliot

        www.futurechristianhomemakers.com

Recommended ages grades 3+ (but many activities could be enjoyed by girls as young as 6)

        $29.97

This large resource book is excellent! Teacher and student pages are all in one book! The author even allows you to copy pages for creating a homemaking notebook, so one copy per family is all that is needed! Over 200 pages with color photos and illustrations. Although cooking and cleaning lessons are the bulk of the book, there is also a devotional section in the front of the book and resource pages for sewing and other activities. Many step by step recipes with great photos are included throughout. Hints on things to know before cooking and food handling make this an all-in-one tool for teaching young girls and grown ladies alike. The cleaning section has handy tips (like how to get that hard food splatter out of a microwave) to make cleaning a snap. Ideal for church groups, home school co-ops, mother-daughter activities, neighborhood outreach, self instruction, etc.

This book will help mothers and daughters bond and will teach both many useful skills. This book could even be used by high school students, although these important life skills should be taught at a young age in order to develop a love for keeping the home. Children love to help in the kitchen and the home. By teaching young children how to clean and cook properly, they will develop a love for it that will last a lifetime!

Endorsed by Emily Barnes, Beth Moore, and many homeschooling moms!

This book is my first choice in teaching young girls to cook and keep the home.

Also available are scripture bookmarks and "FCH Stitch and Learn" Bookmarks. The stitch and learn bookmarks have instructions on how to sew your own bookmark. All bookmarks are laminated and come with a lovely sheer ribbon attached. At only $1 each, these would make an excellent gift!

Laurie also has many booklets ($3-5 including shipping!) available on cooking and grocery shopping tips. Learn how to make that perfect pie crust, roast, etc.

Keepers at Home/Contenders of the Faith

        Recommended ages: 4+

The Keepers at Home program is a skills based program. Each student will need their own handbook. Beautiful pins are available for each skill listed (and some that aren't listed). This is an excellent Christian program! The handbook contains brief ideas and tips for completing each skill. For instance, for pressed flowers, instructions are included for making a flower press, pressing flowers, and questions follow where the student will read and write about scriptures that relate to flowers and plants. The handbook will be come a keepsake for your child. The award pins (or emblems) will give your child that extra sense of accomplishment.

Also available are excellent character study booklets (pins also available). These are great for morning devotions. We keep one, with our Bible, at the breakfast table and read through them, and answer the questions aloud. We are going through Kindness now. My 6 and 4 year old girls are enjoying this.

You can do this with a group of friends, or as a family. We are choosing to do this as a family, but will meet a couple of times a year to have a party and give out awards with a friend and her children.

For the cooking and cleaning badges, I would highly recommend Lori Latour's book Future Christian Homemakers (above).

Many great ideas for recipe collections, linens, aprons and many more. A delightful section on shower ideas is also included. A very inspiring book. Kids Baking

        Williams-Sonoma

        $19.95

This beautiful 125 page, spiral bound (great because it will lay flat) book is sure to be your child's favorite cookbook! A great introduction is included which teaches children how to prepare baking dishes, cut butter into flour, cream butter and sugar, break eggs, zest citrus, peel fruit, and hull strawberries. Detailed recipes, with step by step color photos, for cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, pastries, simple breads, muffins, and yeast breads follow. Recipes appropriate for beginners are labeled with "easy" above the recipe title. I love the fact that the ingredients do not contain unhealthy items like Crisco. The recipe for pie crust uses butter instead. The print is simple enough for a 1st or 2nd grader to read.

This is the ONLY cookbook I have seen, where the recipes all taste great and no extra flour is needed. Most recipes require the use of extra flour to make the dough workable. These recipes are great for young children since they are yummy and turn out great every time. I made the gingerbread cookies for the children at our church and had teachers ask me for the recipe.

Great photos throughout, easy to read print, and a spiral binding to help the book lay flat make this the perfect cookbook for your child. I plan to purchase several more of these to give as Christmas gifts this year along with the Kids Baking book.

A great, simple to use book for teaching young girls, ages 4-8 how to cook and get around in the kitchen. Our daughter (6) found this to be her favorite cooking book. She loved the simple directions, the cute pictures to color, and being able to really learn how to cook and prepare food! Highly recommended! Faith will also guide your daughter through learning how to thread a needle and sew, as well as clean house.
